1998年，Boyzone的经济人LouisWalsh发现Shane、Mark、与Kian共组的6人乐队，他决定继Boyzone后再组建一个偶像乐队。 经联络这个愿望终于变成了现实。原本取名Westside并且已经积累相当人气，但是因为美国有一个同名乐队，為了避免纠纷，也为了将来进军美国，在1999年正式改名为Westlife。当时的Wesstlife在1998年底为11 月加入偶像杂志的巡迴演唱会(Smash Hits Road Show)，也和师傅Boyzone五年前一样，获得该杂志「Best New Act Award最佳演出新人奖」。

　　后来的一段日子里，一些团员因故离去了，Walsh找到担任Bass（单曲”More Than Words”可以清楚听到）的Bryan及曾经是职业足球队员的Nick，巧得是两位新团员原本就是朋友，这五位青 年就此踏入人生最辉煌的事业。Ronan从Westside刚诞生的时候就开始教导他们，他自谦只是和他们说话。AKian说，Ronan告诉他们关于这一行的事情及注意事项与禁忌，如何与团员相处，必经的高低潮，在音色上给予建议，他的角色像朋友。Ronan是主动要求与他们见面的，因为他希望能夠帮助他们就像Walsh当年帮Boyzone一样。

　　从开始为Boyzone暖场，他们就被视为Boyzone的接班人。1999年4月WestLlfe推出第一首单曲时正当Boyzone准备推出精选专辑， 他们将解散的传言及圈內人的预测，使得由Boyzone的Ronan与经纪人Louis Walsh共同经纪的WestLlif顺势成为Boyzone的指定接班，而Ronan的强力推荐，加上曾经拥有天王偶像团Take That、 被称为“男孩偶像养成班”的唱片公司强力宣传，同公司的还有坏男孩5ive及Christina Aquilera，Westlife的音乐事业，不但起飞平顺，而且一飞冲天。
